Eco-Committee Update
This term the Eco-Committee is focusing on reducing our environmental footprints.
At our recent Eco-Committee Assembly we explained why we should try and change our habits, and how we might do this. Here are some of our top tips:
Take only what you need and use all that you take. |
Write/print on both sides of the paper and recycle it when no longer useful. |
Bring a reusable water bottle to school rather than using plastic cups for drinks. |
Eat all the food on your plate at mealtimes. |
Don’t keep the tap running whilst brushing your teeth/washing your hands. |
Have quick showers rather than long baths. |
Turn off lights when rooms are empty. |
Save electricity where possible by switching things off. |
Keep windows and doors shut in winter so that heat does not escape. |
Do not drop litter – put it in the bin/recycling bin |
You can find out what your own environmental footprint is and how you can reduce it by visiting the WWF website’s carbon footprint calculator: http://footprint.wwf.org.uk/
We also showed the trailer for a very powerful documentary film called ‘A Plastic Ocean’ (dir. Craig Leeson, 2016): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zrn4-FfbXw
If you would like to watch the full film, it is available on Amazon Video, Google Play, iTunes, Netflix and YouTube, or visit https://www.plasticoceans.org/
It is not easy to watch, but highly recommended and very worthwhile.
