Pre-Prep 3 (age 5-6)

In Pre-Prep 3 (Year 1), our curriculum shifts towards fostering greater independence and self-assurance, all while maintaining the nurturing ethos that defines Ashfold. At this stage, we introduce a more formal style of learning with a subject-based curriculum that includes:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Humanities
  • French
  • Physical Education (PE)
  • Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
  • Design Technology
  • Computing
  • Music
  • Art

Specialist teaching and support, particularly in Music, Art, and Computing, are gradually introduced from the Prep School.

Our children continue to benefit from regular trips and visits from inspiring speakers, and they increasingly participate in whole-school events where they have the opportunity to interact with older students. This interaction not only broadens their horizons but also reinforces a strong sense of community within our school.

Key features of our Pre-Prep 3 curriculum include:

  • Collaborative Learning: Engaging in group projects and interactive lessons that build community bonds and social skills.
  • Structured Exploration: Gradually introducing more complex concepts while balancing guided instruction with opportunities for independent discovery.
  • Artistic Integration: Maintaining a strong emphasis on creative arts—through music, art, and storytelling—to support the children's development.
  • Personalised Guidance: Our dedicated staff provide tailored support to nurture each child’s individual strengths and interests.

Pre-Prep 3 is designed to build resilience and self-confidence. We actively encourage our pupils to be independent learners both inside and outside the classroom, working with them to develop the skills and mindset necessary for future academic success.

"Pupils relish the opportunity to work independently and take great pride in the numerous displays showing their colourful and highly accomplished creative work"
