Pre-Prep 4 (age 6-7)
Pre-Prep 4 (Year 2) is a vital transition phase at Ashfold, where we prepare our young learners for the more structured environment of the Juniors. During this stage, we continue to introduce a more formal style of learning through a subject-based curriculum that includes:
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- Humanities
- French
- Physical Education (PE)
- Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE)
- Design Technology
- Computing
- Music
- Art
In addition to our broad curriculum, specialist teaching and support are provided from the Prep School in key areas such as Music, Art, Computing, and PE & Games. This enriched learning experience ensures that every child receives tailored guidance as they develop new skills and prepare for the next stage in the Prep School.
Our children continue to benefit from regular trips and engaging visits from inspiring speakers. They also start to take part in whole-school events, mixing with older pupils, which further enhances their learning experience and fosters a strong sense of community.
The focus of Pre-Prep 4 is on three core areas:
-
Academic Readiness:
We consolidate literacy and numeracy skills while introducing routines that ease the transition to formal schooling, ensuring a solid academic foundation. -
Emotional and Social Skills:
Emphasising decision-making, problem-solving, and resilience, we nurture both academic and emotional preparedness. This stage builds confidence and helps children develop the interpersonal skills necessary for success in a more structured school setting. -
Personal Development:
Our balanced curriculum integrates physical activity, creative exploration, and academic tasks. This approach nurtures every aspect of a child’s growth, ensuring they leave Pre-Prep with strong academic foundations and the confidence and independence needed for the Juniors.
