Mr Mike Rickner Appointed as Next Ashfold Head
We are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Mike Rickner as the next Head of Ashfold and he will take up the role in August 2025.
Mike studied Theology at the University of Exeter and has a PGCE in Religious Studies and a Masters in Teaching and Learning from the University of Oxford. He is currently completing a Postgraduate Certificate in Developing and Leading Cultural Change in Safeguarding. He has been a teacher in Religious Studies at Stowe since 2010, and has a great deal to offer both academically and pastorally, as he currently holds the posts of Deputy Head Pastoral, Designated Safeguarding Lead, is an ISI inspector and a Governor of Wallington County Grammar School, as well as being a popular Houseparent.
Out of the classroom, Mike played rugby for England Under 18s, captained England Universities and Exeter Chiefs, and at Oxford was awarded a double blue playing back to back Varsity matches.
Joining Mike at Ashfold will be his wife, Sophie, and their two young children, Arthur and Lily. Sophie graduated from Durham in English and Sport and has extensive prep school experience having taught English and been Head of year groups at Summerfields and Beachborough. She is currently Head of Staff welfare and a popular Houseparent and is looking forward to teaching at Ashfold, as well as promoting the wellbeing of staff and children, while supporting the Ashfold Equestrian team. Sophie is currently completing a Diploma to become a Trauma and Welfare practitioner.
Colin and the Leadership team will work closely with Mike over the next two terms to ensure a smooth transition and there will be an opportunity for all parents and staff to meet both Mike and Sophie during this time at a series of 'Meet the Head' events.
Mike says:“It is a great privilege to have been asked to lead Ashfold, especially as it heads
towards celebrating its centenary year in 2027. I am incredibly honoured to be the next Head and Sophie and I are excited about joining the vibrant school community. I look forward to working closely with the staff, pupils and parents to promote and enhance the values and the ethos of the School and further develop the educational experience of the pupils. Prep schools are amazing places and I am committed to developing the outstanding all-round education offered at Ashfold.”
We are sure you will join us in welcoming Mike and Sophie to Ashfold and thank you again
for your continued support. We look forward to this exciting new chapter in the School's
history.
