Form III Trip to Windsor Castle

Form III visited Windsor Castle to take a closer look at the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world.

First they looked around the outside of the castle, spotting many defence features such as thick walls, arrow loops, crenels and merlons, murder holes and a portcullis.

As it was twenty-six years to the day since a terrible fire swept through the eastern wing of the Castle in 1992, the children were told to look out for the scrape marks on the fourteenth century Norman Gate from where the fire engines had to squeeze through.

They got a little cold and damp watching the Changing of the Guard and then warmed up during an indoor lesson on the history of the Castle.

After lunch they had an informative tour of St George's Chapel, then visited the splendid State Apartments, which included some most impressively arranged displays of guns, pistols and swords.
