Change Makers In Science
Our Form 6 pupils recently enjoyed an inspiring day of scientific discovery and collaboration when they travelled to Stowe to take part in the Change Makers in Science Day, an exciting event led by Stowe's Sixth Form Stoics and centred around the theme The Science of Surviving.
Bringing together pupils from Ashfold, Winchester House and Swanbourne School, the day challenged children to explore how science helps us understand and respond to some of the real-world challenges faced by people, animals and environments around the globe.
From the moment they arrived, pupils were mixed into teams with children from all three schools, creating an environment where collaboration was every bit as important as scientific knowledge. Working alongside new friends, they were encouraged to communicate effectively, share ideas and listen carefully to different perspectives as they tackled a series of engaging challenges.
Throughout the day, teams were presented with problems that required creative thinking, curiosity and resilience. Whether testing ideas, adapting their approach when things did not go to plan or learning from mistakes, pupils quickly discovered that scientific progress often comes through experimentation, perseverance and teamwork.
The event also provided a valuable opportunity for children to develop skills beyond the classroom. As they worked together to solve problems, pupils grew in confidence, practised leadership and communication skills, and learned how to collaborate with people they had only just met. It was wonderful to see them embracing these challenges, supporting one another and contributing enthusiastically to their teams.
The day was expertly led by Stowe's Sixth Form Stoics, who acted as mentors throughout the activities. Their guidance and encouragement helped create a positive and engaging atmosphere, inspiring the younger pupils to think critically, ask questions and approach problems with confidence.
As well as being an enjoyable and memorable experience, the Change Makers in Science Day demonstrated how science can be used to understand and overcome real-world challenges. By combining investigation, innovation and teamwork, pupils gained a deeper appreciation of the role science plays in shaping the world around us.
A fantastic day of learning, collaboration and discovery, and an excellent example of the opportunities available through being part of the wider Stowe Group community. We look forward to seeing our budding scientists build on their experiences in the months ahead.
