Form III Trip to Windsor
On Tuesday 8 November, Form III visited Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world.
The children had a tour of St George’s Chapel, learning all about the Knights of the Garter and seeing the tombs of many of England’s past kings and queens. This was followed by a talk about William the Conqueror and how he used castles to establish his control over the newly defeated English following the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
After lunch the children explored the outside of the castle and spotted many defensive features such as thick curtain walls, crenels and merlons, arrow loops and murder holes. They then looked around the magnificent State Apartments – the rooms in which the Queen welcomes her guests to the castle – and were impressed by the furniture, the paintings, the beautifully arranged collections of guns, swords and china and a special exhibition of Her Majesty’s dresses.
