Transition Trip to Buckinghamshire Railway Centre
Children in Transition dressed as evacuees and travelled back in time for a World War II experience at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton.
Everyone enjoyed a very busy day – meeting the home guard, travelling on a real steam train (we were so well behaved they let us go on twice!), experiencing a bombing raid in a shelter, seeing the actual carriage where Winston Churchill held his meetings with Eisenhower and taking a ride on the miniature railway. Here are some of the children’s comments about the trip:
“I went on the steam train and I was in First Class!” Ollie L
“I learnt that people hid in train carriages as bomb shelters.” Zara L
“I loved it when we went into the bomb shelter because there was smoke everywhere and real sounds of bombs.” Freya H
