Scholars' Club investigates Sugar
The Scholars’ Club looked at the major diseases affecting society today during a session with Dr David Taylor. He explained how heart attacks and strokes can occur and what doctors can do to help.
More importantly, he showed the children how they could be more aware of the sugar in their everyday food. The children were tasked with weighing out the amounts of sugar in food and drinks such as cornflakes, tomato soup, Coca Cola - and even apples! It was eye-opening. He stressed the need to be aware of sugar but reassured the children that by consuming sugar in moderation and taking regular exercise, everyone can lead a very healthy life.
