House Music Competition
This year’s House Music Competition was judged by Alex Tester, Director of Music at St Edward’s, Oxford and was won by Lions.
It was, as always, a fiercely contested and lively event and it was clear that all the children had rehearsed hard for both the soloist and House song sections.
To mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, the theme of the House song competition was music from the Great War. Our adjudicator explained that he was looking for inventive performances with every individual involved in the song.
The winning entry in the song competition came from Dragons with ‘It’s a Long Way to Tipperary’. Mr Tester admired the strong, clear sound; the harmony and chorus.
Lions came in second with ‘Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit Bag’. This “wide-eyed” performance involved a lot of marching and everyone joined in.
Third place went to Gryphons with ‘Keep The Home Fires Burning’. This was a hard song because it was slow and had some big, challenging moments but they went for it and made a real performance of it.
The overall results of the 2018 House Music Competition were:
- Lions
- Dragons
- Gryphons
Congratulations to all the winners and our thanks to Mr Tester.
