Korky Paul visits Ashfold

Korky Paul, the prize-winning children’s book illustrator behind the famous Winnie the Witch series, gave pupils his top tips on how to draw and create fantastic illustrations.

The children were fascinated as Korky revealed some of the techniques he uses and showed them how he creates a full colour illustration from start to finish. During a series of interactive sessions with children in Pre-Prep II to Form VI, Korky explained how the process starts in his imagination and how expressions, layout and colour can bring characters to life.

The younger children made their own illustrations using watercolours, Korky-style! Here are some reflections from Pre-Prep II children:

“I liked it when he drew and painted Wilbur and when he put dark blue on the black so that you could see the detail.” Arthur

“I liked it when he put the magic stars with the wand so it looked like magic!” Freddie

“I liked the paintbrush making Winnie’s socks.” Olivia

“I liked Korky painting a paint brush with a paintbrush!” Clara
